10 High-End Design Details that Will Instantly Update Your Space
Do you feel like your home is almost there but missing that final polish?
There’s a fine line between a beautiful home and a luxurious one. Whether you’re planning a remodel or just ready to elevate your everyday spaces, small, high-end updates can make a world of difference.
As an interior designer specializing in organic modern interiors, I’m always drawn to materials and design choices that add quiet luxury—subtle yet stunning. If you’re ready to make your home feel tailored, timeless, and worth every penny, you’ll want to start here.
1. Custom Cabinetry with ALL the details
The cornerstone of luxury home design is custom cabinetry. With custom cabinetry, you get EXACTLY what you need. It’s not the cheapest option, but it is certainly the best. My favorite cabinet types are inset cabinets and frameless cabinets. Either type will give you the high-end look you are going for. Ensure you select a reputable cabinet shop. By having an expert design your kitchen beforehand, you can easily give the plans to 2-3 cabinet shops and get accurate bids to compare. Make sure to analyze your kitchen to ensure you have sufficient storage for all your kitchen gadgets. This way, you will optimize every square inch of your kitchen.
2. Natural Stone Finishes
Real stone brings instant elegance. Think granite, quartzite, marble. These materials aren’t just for countertops, they can also be used for backsplashes, fireplace mantels and so much more. I also love the idea of bringing the stone material on the exterior of your home to the interior. This gives a feel of indoor-outdoor living that I love. Stone doesn’t just look luxurious; it gives any house a timeless feel.
3. Layered Lighting to Create a Mood
When it comes to lighting, there is no one-size-fits-all approach. Ensure that you include all types of lighting in each of your rooms. I love statement lighting, such as chandeliers or pendants, but I also love adding sconces, task lighting like under-counter lighting, lamps and some overhead lighting. We are seeing a push in interior design to eliminate canned lighting, but I think there is still a place for it. What I would say is to make sure your ceiling doesn’t look like Swiss cheese. Be intentional about where you put your overhead lighting. Also, consider smaller cans that blend into your ceiling and are less noticeable. Recessed + pendants + sconces + accent lighting create an intimate thoughtful ambience.
4. Real Wood Flooring
Real wood flooring instantly elevates a space. Today’s pre-finished options are better than ever, making it easy to achieve that authentic, lived-in look. Whether you choose a European oak or a whitewashed finish, you can create an organic palette that brings character, warmth, and durability to your home.
Why it matters:
Unlike vinyl, real wood ages gracefully and feels natural, adding timeless value and beauty to any room.
5. Tailored Window Treatments
Floor-to-ceiling drapery or Roman shades made from premium materials instantly add sophistication. They not only add softness to a space but can bring visual interest, especially when paired using a pattern. My favorite drapery materials include linen or linen blends to add texture. Linen feels sophisticated but not overly stuffy.
6. Architectural Detail
Architectural details aren’t just for traditional homes. I love seeing coffered ceilings, interesting trim and base details, and beautiful wall paneling for any home as long as it fits the style. These high end details come at a cost but add so much character to a home.

7. Statement Hardware and Fixtures
In my experience, builder-grade homes are often limited in terms of hardware and fixtures. The good news is that it is really easy to swap out. When it comes to cabinetry hardware, If you can’t swap out when you are building, I would suggest just installing a knob. That way, you won’t be limited in pull length if you decide to add pulls to your cabinetry. Add interest with a sculptural knob or solid brass pulls. Lighting is also easy to swap out to make your home feel high-end. You can quickly transform a dull space by adding a fabulous light. Take your time and find the perfect hardware and lighting for you!
Upgrading your cabinet hardware instantly adds warmth, elegance, and a custom feel to your cabinetry. Look for clean, timeless shapes that complement the wood’s organic beauty without overpowering it.
8. Premium Textiles
Consider incorporating textiles into your home design, such as Alpaca throws, linen slipcovers, or boucle accent chairs. Textures = Luxury.
Combining textiles always makes a space feel comfortable and inviting!
9. Spa-Like Primary Bathroom
Luxury home design will always include spaces that feel restorative. When we were building our current home, the only thing that my husband requested was a steam shower. He LOVES his steam shower! Your morning routine could include a heated floor or a deep, free-standing tub. You get to choose what would make your routine feel luxurious.
Make Your Bathroom A Retreat
Natural light, soft textiles, and organic finishes complete the calm, luxurious feel.
10. Curated, Not Cluttered
Luxury isn’t about more; it’s about meaning. It’s about art that you love, accessories from places you’ve traveled, and curated furniture. I have tried to practice minimalism for a while now. I need my home to have a lot of negative space, but I also want it to feel comforting and infused with my personality.
🌱 Final Thoughts: Why These Details Matter
True luxury isn’t loud; it is personal, thoughtful, and elevated. Investing in high-end interior details doesn’t just raise your home’s value—it transforms how you feel in your space. You deserve a home that reflects your lifestyle and feels like your own private retreat.
If you’re ready to bring that level of refinement into your home, I’d be delighted to help.
